Through October 2012
Construction is expected to last approximately 13 months, and will be conducted between the hours of 8 am - 8 pm. The sidewalk will be closed - with a protected canopy to allow pedestrian access - in front of the job site for the duration of the project. The contractor will make every effort to minimize pedestrian and retail disruption during the construction phase. The construction is expected to end in late October of 2012.
Northwestern Memorial Hospital Update
Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH) continues demolition of the buildings located 259 E. Erie Street and 240 E. Ontario Street, the future site of the Outpatient Care Pavilion ("OCP").
This month the demolition of the former 240 E. Ontario building, including foundations, will be complete. In addition, structural demolition of the building located at 259 E. Erie will be down to the 2nd or 3rd floor by the end of the December.
Typical work hours for December (and throughout the project) will occur Monday through Saturday from 8am-8pm. All work will be performed consistent with City of Chicago ordinances.
NMH also continues its construction of the Childcare Facility / Parking Garage located at 441 E. Ontario. Concrete superstructure continues with work on the 12th and 13th floors. Once completed the crew will break down and remove the concrete forming systems from the site. The tower crane will be used to erect the remaining exterior precast panels. Exterior shingle glass panels will be installed on the north elevation. Build out of the daycare center continues.
The typical work hours for December (and throughout the project) will occur Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm (Note: there may be activities to secure and clean the site until 8 pm. All work will be performed consistent with City of Chicago ordinances.)

Resurfacing Projects Throughout the GNMAA Service Area
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be resurfacing streets at various locations throughout the City, including several in the GNMAA service area. The project, scheduled to begin shortly, will last through June, 2012.
The work consists of removing concrete and pavement; resurfacing; concrete placement for bus pads and patches; adjustment of catch basins, manholes, water valves and inlets; removal and replacement of curb, gutter and sidewalk at some locations; tree planting; traffic control and protection; and new pavement markings.
The following locations will be resurfaced:
• Clark Street between North Avenue and Chicago Avenue, 1.0 miles
• Columbus Drive between Wacker Drive and Balbo Drive, 1.3 miles
• Grand Avenue between McClurg Court and State Street, 0.55 miles
• LaSalle Street between Division Street and Kinzie Street, 1.0 miles
• Ohio Street between Orleans Street and State Street, 0.4 miles
• Orleans Street between Division Street and Kinzie Street, 1.0 miles
Construction Update on Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago
Children's Memorial Hospital is nearing completion of construction on the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago at 225 E. Chicago Avenue.
Construction Update:Activity on site is contained to the interiors of the building. Last month significant progress was made in getting the pedestrian walkway completed, and opened up both Chicago and Superior Streets to pedestrian traffic. The only noticeable activity this month will be the continued deliveries of equipment and furniture as the interior of the building gets furnished.
Snow Removal:As the winter weather approaches, Children's Memorial Hospital has contracted with the same company that removes snow for Northwestern Memorial Hospital, to plow sidewalks, driveways and the alley up to the ADA building. Work Schedule:All construction work will continue to occur Monday through Friday from 8 am to late afternoon or early evening, and Saturdays from 8 am to late afternoon. Work on Sundays may also occur as required for timely completion of the project. All work will be performed consistent with the City noise code requirements.

Columbus Drive Bridge Closure
The Columbus Drive Bridge over the main branch of the Chicago River will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic from February 6 to February 10, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, each day for gate box installation and testing.
Detour Information:
- Detour northbound traffic via Columbus Drive, Lower Wacker Drive, Lake Shore Drive, Grand Avenue & Columbus Drive
- Detour southbound traffic via Columbus Drive, Illinois Street, Lake Shore Drive, Lower Wacker Drive and Columbus Drive

Clark/Division Red Line Station Construction Update
After nearly three years of construction, the Grand and State Red Line Station is now officially re-opened.
The renovated station features the most modern technology and customer amenities available, including:
• Three modern escalators to replace the 1940's-era editions
• Modern Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant elevators
• Additional stairs from mezzanine to platform levels to increase circulation
• New security monitoring system and an enhanced communication system
• New electronic signage that can deliver up-to-the-minute information to riders
• Higher lighting levels at mezzanine and platform for security
• New acoustical panels to reduce station noise
• An expanded mezzanine and fare array to improve circulation capacity, with 12 current units and two additional "reserve" units for special events
Lake Shore Drive Bridge Closure
In the coming weeks there will be several lane closures on the Lake Shore Drive Bridge over the main branch of the Chicago River.
Dates/Lane Closures:
January 31: upper-level northbound curb lane
February 2: upper-level northbound median lane
February 7: upper-level southbound curb lane
February 9: upper-level southbound median lane
Street Closure on E. Superior Street
On January 27, Northwestern University will be installing mechanical equipment onto the roof of Searle at 320 E. Superior Street, using a crane. During the crane lift, Superior Street will be closed from Fairbanks Court to Lake Shore Drive beginning at 7 pm on Friday, January 27 and reopening at 3 am on Monday, January 30.
